ABOUT THIS MAQUETTE

Sideshow is proud to unveil one of our boldest and most ambitious Maquettes to date, depicting Thanos in all of his cosmic glory.
The Thanos on Throne Maquette stands over 20” high, the Mad Titan’s grim visage lit by the brightly lit gems of his Infinity Gauntlet.

This highly detailed museum-quality statue represents our artist’s ideal personification of Thanos at his most powerful!
Drawing inspiration from the comic books that we love and admire, the Thanos on Throne Maquette is full of subtle nods to our influences.

Art Director David Igo added: “We went back to that source material from Jim Starlin or from Ron Lim to find those key aspects to the character…that make them who they are, and try to evolve the design.”

Imposing, confident, and aggressive, Thanos is one of the most menacing of all the villains in the Marvel Universe, and every inch of our design was developed to convey that barely contained hostility.

Concept Artist Zac Roane added: “His bodysuit and armor had to be otherworldly. It was either grown or crafted by master space artisans. His armor, his crown, the design language we used was all about aggression. He’s intimidating. He should look unsafe to touch!”

Sideshow’s team spent almost two and a half years designing and sculpting this extremely detailed piece, and the pose and gesture played an enormous role in conveying the power and menace of Thanos.

Zac said: “Thanos has a presence. He isn’t resting or at ease. He has purpose. He owns this. He owns everything!”

Sculptor, Will Harbottle added: “[his gesture is] an homage to the cover of Infinity Gauntlet 4. It’s one of my favorite moments in all of comic history. He’s on the cover, floating in space and he’s saying – ‘come and get me’! We wanted to reference that awesome moment. “

During the design and sculpt process, the throne of Thanos became almost a character in its own right.

Concept Artist JP Mavinga said: “He’s got a huge physical presence, but what’s interesting is most of the time he’s depicted sitting, so you get a sense that he’s very powerful…”

Zac Roane added:“We wanted it to tell a story, of course it’s a nod to all of Thanos’s vanquished foes, but it’s also a monument to his love of Mistress Death. I think fans will love pouring over all the little details we worked into it.”
There is no doubt that the Thanos on Throne Maquette has been a labor of love for Sideshow’s artistic team for several years, and it is with great pride that we now unveil the Mad Titan to the world.
